1. Multiple objectives: When dealing with complex tasks usually there is more than one objective. This is due to the fact that a global one may be very hard to design or unknown. It is often much easier to decompose the task in smaller possibly conflicting objectives. For example, it is common to have in operating systems two, or more, processes cooperating to provide different parts of a functionality while concurring for a shared resource.
